Spiritual Poverty, Spiritual Freedom

Thus, to be free and happy, we must have the courage to tell ourselves, ‘no one owes me anything. Not those who harmed me because I’ve forgiven them and not those to whom I’ve done good, because I want to love them freely. We must burn all of those invoices and forgive all those debts. Here is one of the most important forms of poverty of spirit to which the Beatitudes summon us.  The Lord tells us: ‘ whoever does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.’ - Eight Doors to the Kingdom - Fr. Jacques Philippe
